Mark Dolan Imperial Century

Sunday, August 13th 2017.  Roll out; 6.30am, Noosa Marina

The Imperial Century 160 is an extended version of the Gran Fondo – Sunday’s main event of the Noosa Strade Bianche. This is an additional loop off the new Gran Fondo route, taking in yet more beautiful countryside and more gravel.

This year, it is in memory of our great friend and NSB committee member, Mark Dolan, who sadly passed away early in 2017.

The Imperial includes the strade bianche of the legendary Shadbolt Road, the swooping descent off the ‘Gap’ as well as the snaking gravel downhill through the rainforest of Wolvi

Several refreshment stops, including the now famous Lemon Ladies will provide water, bananas and other free delicacies. Expect other delicious treats at the other refuelling stops on the northern loop!

For the diehards!  The loop re-joins at Kin Kin.

In Kin Kin, the Black Ant Cafe and Kin Kin Hotel can also be tempting for weary riders.

Approx 2400m vertical climb.

Kilometres

This event is not for beginners.

The route will be marked at relevant intersections and there will be a ‘broom wagon’, however participants will be responsible for their own navigation, nutrition, mechanicals and safety. GPS devices are permitted, but riders should also seriously consider having a copy of the maps for this region as a backup. Form alliances with your fellow riders and allow up to 8 hours to complete the 160km ride. Participants must carry their own food/water, although we will pass through several towns where food and drinks can be purchased & toilet stops can be made. Carry whatever you’ll need to survive! Be prepared to cope with broken spokes, flats, broken chains, etc.  There is no mandatory gear that you’ll have to carry, but the following are suggested:

  • Extra half links.
  • At least 2 tubes and a perhaps patch kit.
  • A decent hand pump (and possibly CO2 also, but never rely on it solely).
  • A multi-tool that does everything.
  • Extra Derailleur hanger?
  • The capacity to carry  fluids and food, although it will be possible to re-provision en-route.
  • Front & rear lighting for the possibility of late return.

NOTE; Due to the nature of the Imperial, time cut-offs will be in force. Instructions of marshals and the broom wagon are to be followed.
